- 1. Will I be fully insured?
- As long as members have been truthful about information provided
on applying for membership, the SVCC provides fully comprehensive
insurance cover. The User's Handbook provides full details of
the insurance cover and the excess charges that apply during a
pre-booked hire period.
- 2. How long can I have a car for?
- From as little as an hour up to a long weekend (62 hours) – for
longer hires we offer discount hire rates with a local car hire
company. You can book up to half an hour before you want to make
your trip, or a couple of weeks in advance. Internet bookings can be
made 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, and telephone bookings 08.30 – 17.30
daily.
- 3. How do I pay?
- All booking periods are logged and you will need to record the
mileage driven in a log book when you return the car. At the end of
the month you will be sent a statement that includes the cost of all your car
use during the month and the amount you owe. If you need to buy fuel when using a car, that
is recorded as well, and the cost will be credited back to you on
your monthly statement. Your annual membership fee can be paid by
monthly standing order.
- 4. What about breakdowns?
- Stroud Valleys Car Club cars are about 3 years old and
are serviced regularly. Additionally all cars have accident and
emergency cover through the AA.
- 5. Will I need to change my lifestyle?
- Only for the better! Car Club members become travelblenders,
using whatever means is best for the trips they need to make.
Because you are free of the costs of car ownership, it’s no longer
necessary to maximize car use. If you can make more trips by public
transport, by bicycle or on foot, you don’t need to worry that you
are still paying to run a car. Choose the best and healthiest way to
travel.
- 6. Are there any other benefits?
- Becoming a Car Club member helps to make Stroud a cleaner and
better place to live. Research shows that each car in a car
club typically replaces 5-8 privately owned cars, helping to reduce
pollution and congestion.
- 7. How long has the car club been
running in Stroud?
- The club has been
running since May 2003. Originally part of smartmoves, SVCC
now works independently although is still associated with the nation carclub
organisation.
